Abstract
Several chemical industries have been established in the eastern
side of Cairo, namely in Shoubra El Khima, Mostoroud and Abou Zaabal.
Both treated and untreated effluents of such industries are discharged to
Ismailia Canal, an important water stream in the passing study area,
Underground and surface water samples were analyzed and were found to
be contaminated by Cadmium with concentration higher than the WHO
water quality standards for drinking water. MODFLOW and MT3D soft
wares were used to predict the direction of flow of Cadmium and
dispersion in the groundwater system in the area understudy over a period
of 5 years.
